JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. JDRF's goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D.
As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $530 million in scientific research in 17 countries. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million to T1D research. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. In 2012, Forbes magazine named JDRF one of its five All-Star charities, citing the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.
This year, we will present “Cirque du Cure” at our annual Promise Ball and step into a vibrant world of mystery, adventure, and wonder. The ball will feature a live and silent auction, cocktails, dinner, incredible entertainment, and the opportunity to hear true stories of the promise for a cure as well as learn how you can be a part of turning Type One into Type None. JDRF staff members are busy preparing for this spectacular event! We hope to see you on May 3, 2014 at the Hilton Memphis, but we realize not every T1D family will be able to join us. If you cannot attend but would still like to do something to honor the courageous type 1 diabetic in your life, please consider making a Fund A Cure donation.
What is Fund A Cure? At the Promise Ball there will be a moment when the room is stilled and the story of promises unfold... we call it Fund A Cure. It is the opportunity to donate directly to research and fund the science that will transform charity and change the lives of our family and friends with T1D. 100% of the proceeds from this year’s Fund A Cure will be applied to turning Type One into Type None. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated prior to the event if you are unable to attend the Promise Ball.
